Managing Worries about COVID and Type 1 Diabetes

Dear Colleagues,

The COVID-19 pandemic has been causing incredible and unprecedented personal and economic hardship around the world.

People with diabetes in particular may experience concerns and anxiety of becoming infected and experiencing a more severe form of the infection, hospitalisation and death.

Clinical psychologist Dr Rose Stewart and Sophia Augarde (NHS Wales) have developed a leaflet called ‘Managing Worry About COVID-19 and Diabetes’1,2. The authors encourage people with type 1 diabetes to focus on managing the things that are within their control.

The leaflet has been adapted by The Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes, for Diabetes Australia. LFAC has produced, with slight adaptation, a word document of the Australian handout. You can use this version for easy adaption and translation to your local context. We recommend that you display and disseminate this handout/wallchart as widely as possible.

The Diabetes Australia version has also been translated into 26 languages including Arabic, Bengali, Hindi, Korean, Nepali, Punjabi, Sinhalese, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Urdu and Vietnamese and can be accessed here. Please encourage everyone to get vaccinated. A range of other resources can also be found under each language.

Please let me know if you need help with translation.
